AutoSprout is designed to make sprouting simple, clean, and consistent.
Once you understand the basic workflow, the process becomes almost effortless.

In this guide, we walk you through each step of the AutoSprout process, from seed preparation to starting the program. Each step is paired with a short instructional video so you can both read and watch as you go.

Step 1: Prepare the Seeds (Soaking)

Before any sprouting begins, the seeds need to be properly hydrated.

Different seeds absorb water at different rates, but as a general rule, most sprouting seeds should be soaked for 8–12 hours in cold water. This activates the seed, kickstarts germination, and ensures even growth once placed in AutoSprout.

For this example:

  • Smaller seeds like alfalfa require less volume
  • Larger seeds like mung beans need more volume due to their size

After soaking, the seeds should look plump and hydrated, not broken down or mushy. Once soaked, they are ready to be placed on the trays.

Step 2: Choose the Right Tray and Mesh

AutoSprout uses three different mesh options, designed to handle different seed sizes and root structures.

  • Large mesh
Best for larger seeds such as mung beans, lentils, and peas.
  • Medium mesh
Ideal for seeds like alfalfa and clover.
  • Fine mesh overlay
Used on top of another tray for seeds like broccoli that develop fine root hairs.
This prevents roots from penetrating the tray, making harvesting much easier.
The fine mesh is also useful for gelatinous seeds, which can otherwise stick to the tray surface.

Choosing the correct mesh improves airflow, prevents root tangling, and simplifies cleanup and harvesting.

Step 3: Fill the Water Tank and Power On

Once the trays are ready, the next step is preparing the AutoSprout unit itself.

  1. Open the back water chamber
  2. Fill with fresh, clean water up to the overflow line
    • Capacity: 4.5 liters / 1 gallon
  3. Close the chamber and place the unit back on a flat surface
  4. Plug in the power adapter

When the unit powers on, the control panel will light up, confirming that AutoSprout is ready to run.

Step 4: Spread the Seeds and Load the Trays

Even seed distribution is essential for uniform growth.

  • Gently spread larger seeds (like mung beans) on the large mesh
  • Spread smaller seeds (like alfalfa) on the medium mesh
  • Use your fingertips and avoid clumping

Next:

  1. To place the bottom tray, lift one rail inside the AutoSprout slightly. Tilt the tray slightly while placing it in.
  2. Stack the second tray on top

The trays are now correctly positioned and ready for the sprouting cycle.

Step 5: Set the Program and Start Sprouting

Now it’s time to let AutoSprout do the work.

For alfalfa and mung beans:

  • Sprouting time: about 5 days

How to set the program:

  1. Press the Time button
  2. Use + / – to select 5 days
  3. Press Time again to confirm

Set the light:

  1. Press the Light button
  2. Select day 5
    • This means the light will turn on during the last day for greening
  3. Press Light again to confirm

Finally, press Play to start the program.

Place the lid on, and AutoSprout will now handle watering and light cycles automatically. Your sprouts will be ready to harvest in about five days.

Step 6: Other Features – Manual Light Override & Program Reset

AutoSprout also includes a few features that give you more control during an active sprouting cycle.

Manual Light Override (Greening Early)

Sometimes your sprouts are growing faster than expected.
If you check them after 3–4 days and they already look good but need more greening and fresh flavor, you don’t need to stop the program.

You can manually override the light settings:

  1. Press and hold the Light button
  2. After holding it for several seconds, the display will change
  3. This means the light will start immediately and run for an 11-hour cycle

This feature is useful if you want:

  • earlier greening
  • a fresher taste
  • more control without interrupting watering cycles

The sprouting program itself continues running as normal.

Turning the Light Off Again

If you hold the Light button once more, the display will show 0.
This means no light will run at all, even though the sprouting program is still active.

⚠️ Important note:
If this happens by mistake, your sprouts will continue sprouting without any light, which may not be what you want.

You can still check:

  • remaining sprouting time (for example: 4 days, 23 hours left)
  • but no light will be scheduled

Resetting the Program if You Make a Mistake

If you accidentally override the light settings incorrectly, the solution is simple:

  1. Hold the Play / Pause button
  2. The program will reset (display returns to 0.00)

You are now back to the starting point.

From here you can:

  • re-set the remaining sprouting time
  • re-set when the light should turn on (for example, the last day)
  • press Play to restart the cycle

AutoSprout will immediately run a watering cycle and continue as normal.

What Happens Next?

Once the program finishes:

  • Harvest your sprouts
  • Clean the trays thoroughly before the next batch
  • Refill the water tank if starting a new cycle

With proper cleaning and correct setup, AutoSprout delivers consistent, high-quality sprouts batch after batch.

Summary: The AutoSprout Workflow

  1. Soak seeds (8–12 hours)
  2. Choose the correct tray and mesh
  3. Fill water tank and power on
  4. Spread seeds and load trays
  5. Set program and press Play

That’s it. No daily rinsing. No guesswork. Just reliable sprouting.
